Wearing your aligners for less than the recommended time can make you lose some of your hard-won progress. Just as your teeth can move to their best and healthiest positions with Invisalign, they can also move back to their old spots without your trays. This can set back your treatment timeline by days and weeks when you miss a couple hours here and there. However, if you forget your aligners for several days in a row, you may find your current trays no longer fit in your mouth easily. You will need to return to a previous tray that does and continue moving your treatment forward from there.

When cleaning your aligners, gently brush them with a soft toothbrush to clear plaque and bacteria buildup. Do not use toothpaste or hot water as they can stain and warp your trays respectively. You should also soak your aligners for 15 to 20 minutes each day in a special aligner solution. Be sure to rinse your trays with water before putting them back in.
