DO YOU NEED A ROOT CANAL?

Quick and responsive root canal treatment lets our skilled dentists save your smile

With severe cavities, early treatment can be a key factor between needing a root canal or tooth extraction. Our dentists always want to keep your natural smile as healthy and whole as possible. However, we need you to recognize the warning signs to get the urgent care you need quickly. Please call our Spring dental office at (713) 489-0538 if you experience the following symptoms:

  • Persistent toothache and tooth nerve pain
  • Tooth sensitivity to hot and cold foods and drinks
  • Pain when eating or putting pressure on your tooth
  • Chronic lousy breath, even after mints or brushing your teeth
  • White or discolored spots on the tooth
  • Visible hole or pit in the tooth’s surface
  • Recurring bump or pimple on the gums
  • Swollen and tender gums
  • Tooth looseness and mobility

In some cases, there can be no symptoms. If your toothache abruptly disappears, contact our dentists right away. Sudden tooth numbness is often a sign that your tooth is about to die. With an emergency root canal, we can save your tooth, even from the brink of death.

THE ROOT CANAL PROCEDURE: WHAT TO EXPECT

Count on our trusted dentists to have your tooth back to its old, healthy self in no time

If you need a root canal, our expert team at Nu Dentistry Spring ensures the entire process is smooth and painless. Root canals are typically done in two visits. During the first, we will remove the infected pulp tissue and nerve, which may require clearing out an entire root or two. Once the tooth is cavity-free, we will disinfect it and fill it with a rubbery material called gutta-percha, which seals your inner tooth and protects it against future decay. We will then create a digital impression of your tooth using scans, X-rays, and molds. This lets us design a dental crown that perfectly restores the look, feel, and bite of your tooth. Your tooth will be weaker without the pulp keeping it healthy and strong, so your crown will reinforce its defenses. It will take time for this crown to be prepared, so our dentists will fit you with a temporary filling or crown in the meantime. You’ll come in for your second visit once the permanent crown is ready for placement, keeping your tooth safe and in great shape for years to come. Do root canals hurt? Not with our skilled endodontist team on your side! Root canals might have a less-than-stellar reputation, but with local anesthesia, we can fully numb your tooth down to the root, ensuring you never feel any discomfort while we work. We also have dental sedation options available for more comprehensive comfort and relaxation. At Nu Dentistry Spring, we’re fully dedicated to providing our patients with an amazing, stress-free experience at every visit.

Don’t wait until it’s too late to save your tooth with root canal treatment! Book your appointment with our endodontic team today by calling (713) 489-0538.

Gum Disease

Gum disease is one of the leading causes of tooth loss in the United States. While cleanings can help prevent gum disease, there are other factors that can cause this condition. Gum disease not only affect your tooth, but it also deteriorates the surrounding bones and ligaments causing tooth loss and a generally weaker immune system. Treatment for gum disease should be prompt and thorough to eliminate bacteria and prevent further deterioration.

Your total root canal cost, including crown, will depend on the cavity’s severity and location and the type of dental crown. For example, front teeth, which have only a single root, are less costly than molars, which can have up to three roots. Additionally, all-porcelain crowns will be more costly than metal or porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns. For a more precise estimate of your treatment’s cost, please contact our office at (713) 489-0538 to schedule a financial consultation.

Most patients know to go to a dentist once they start feeling a toothache. However, severe cavities can destroy enough of the tooth’s pulp and nerves that all tooth pain disappears. This can be a sign that your tooth is about to die or has already died. If your tooth suddenly goes numb, please see our dentist as soon as you can for immediate root canal treatment. With quick action, we have a greater chance of saving your tooth. Otherwise, the tooth will need to be extracted.

After root canal treatment, your teeth will be weaker and more brittle, and they will need to be sealed and reinforced with a dental restoration. The best way is with a dental crown, which protects your entire tooth and is made from strong and sturdy materials like porcelain and metal. However, in many cases, a dental filling can still be used instead of a crown, but it won’t be as durable or long-lasting. Crowns are especially recommended for back teeth like molars, which need to withstand the full force of your bite.

Depending on the severity and location of your root canal infection, our endodontist team can clear your tooth of all decay in 30 minutes to 90 minutes. Teeth with multiple infected roots, which can often happen with molars, typically land on the higher end of the scale. After a temporary crown has been placed, you will need a second visit to place your permanent crown and fully seal the tooth.

In general, yes. We only need local anesthetic to fully numb your tooth for a root canal. Patients who request nitrous oxide can still drive themselves after their procedure as well because the sedative wears off quickly once the mask has been removed. However, if you need oral or IV sedation, you will need to plan ahead and have a friend or family member pick you up after your appointment.

If you have the choice of a root canal vs. extraction, we always recommend a root canal instead. Root canals allow you to save your tooth, which keeps your smile brighter and healthier better than even the best replacement tooth. However, sometimes, the root canal infection has spread too far, and even root canal treatment can’t preserve the tooth. In these cases, your tooth will need to be removed.

The Best Dentist In Spring
Sandra Archuleta

We have been looking for a family dentist for a long time, we have tried a bunch of places but nothing felt quite like home. Not too long ago we stumbled upon Nu Dentistry and met Dr. Ali. Not only was he professional, kind, and gentle, but he always finds a way to fit us in when we need an appointment. He’s also pretty funny! I appreciate that he takes the time to explain what he’s doing, before he does it. That really puts me at ease.

I usually have such huge anxiety when I go to a dentist appointment, which means I always put off visits until the last minute to disastrous consequences. However, Dr. Loggins helped me with sedation, so the entire process was a breeze!
