There are two types of tooth removal, simple and surgical extraction. Which one our dentist will perform depends on the tooth’s condition. Teeth that are visible above the gum line will need a simple extraction. During this procedure, our dentist will use a dental elevator to loosen your tooth before removing the tooth from the gums with forceps. This process is incredibly quick, taking only 3 to 15 minutes to complete per tooth. However, if your tooth is submerged below the gums, we will need to surgically remove it. The dentist will make a small incision in your gums, giving them direct access to the tooth. From there, we can proceed similarly to a simple extraction, loosening the tooth from the gums before pulling it free. In some cases, we may cut the tooth into smaller pieces to make removing them faster and easier. Because this procedure is more involved, it takes an average of 45 minutes.
