DO YOU NEED DEEP CLEANING?

Keep your periodontal disease in check with our painless deep cleaning

If you have gum disease, your dental hygienist may recommend a deep cleaning. Gum disease is an inflammation of the gums caused by plaque and tartar collecting on the teeth’s roots below the gums. Deep pockets in the gums form to easily capture this debris, allowing the infection to attack the gums, connective tissues, and jaw bone. Gum disease causes the gums to become red and puffy, pull away from the teeth and recede, and even bleed when you brush or floss your teeth. A normal dental cleaning isn’t enough to clear out these pockets. However, with a deep cleaning, our top-tier hygienists can go deeper to clear out the gum pockets below the gum line. With several visits, we can thoroughly scrape your teeth clean of all pockets of plaque, tartar, and debris. The teeth’s roots are also smoothed down, allowing receding gums to reattach to the teeth and heal better and faster. Regular deep cleanings can be essential for patients with more severe gum disease to keep their gum health in check. Do you need to schedule a deep cleaning with our hygienists? Book yours today by calling our Spring office at (713) 489-0538 today.

6 DAILY ORAL HYGIENE TIPS FOR A HEALTHY SMILE!

Toothbrush vector
GO ELECTRIC

Going electric with your toothbrush ensures that you always use the right technique when brushing your teeth, preventing tooth decay much more effectively than your normal manual toothbrush does. Some also come with sensors to tell you when you’re using too much pressure.

Stopwatch 2 minutes vector
TWO MINUTES

Giving your teeth a quick pass when brushing your teeth isn’t enough to prevent developing a tooth cavity. You should brush your teeth for 2 minutes to ensure each tooth gets the proper attention it needs. Some electric toothbrushes have built-in timers to make this easy to do.

Dental floss vector
FLOSS LIKE A BOSS

Brushing your teeth isn’t enough alone. You must also floss every day to remove the plaque trapped between your teeth. This is essential for preventing tooth decay and cavities, which would eventually lead to costly procedures like a crown, root canal, or tooth extraction.

Denture vector
DOUBLE UP

Attending your regular dental hygiene appointment every 6 months is crucial for keeping your teeth in top condition. Patients with a long history of cavities and dental work may be recommended to come into our dental clinic every 3 or 4 months to ensure everything’s in order.

DRINK WATER

Drinking water after meals rinses away sugar, starches, and food left on your teeth, preventing bacteria and plaque from building up so easily. And gross as it is, water also helps your mouth produce saliva, which is the body’s way of breaking down food and fighting off cavities.

Ice cream vector
TASTY TREATS

Limit the number of sweets, desserts, junk food, and other fun treats as much as you can. They may taste great, but they can be killer on your teeth. Sugars and starches make it easier for plaque and bacteria to form and begin wearing away at your teeth’s enamel.

Gum Disease

Gum disease is one of the leading causes of tooth loss in the United States. While cleanings can help prevent gum disease, there are other factors that can cause this condition. Gum disease not only affect your tooth, but it also deteriorates the surrounding bones and ligaments causing tooth loss and a generally weaker immune system. Treatment for gum disease should be prompt and thorough to eliminate bacteria and prevent further deterioration.

Cleaning and Exam FAQ

Poor oral health can impact your general health over time. Bad cavities and gum disease might start in the mouth, but left untreated, they can allow oral bacteria to enter the bloodstream and affect the rest of your body. A lifetime of poor dental health has been linked to heart disease, stroke, pneumonia, rheumatoid arthritis, and diabetes.

Some patients may only need one deep cleaning. However, many patients require regular appointments every three or four months. Periodontitis can’t be reversed or cured, so it will need frequent treatment to keep your gum disease in check. Multiple deep cleanings a year can prevent jawbone and tooth loss as we keep the gums’ pockets from filling and the gums from receding again.

Since deep cleanings go further to comprehensively remove plaque and tartar, the process can be more uncomfortable than a regular dental cleaning. We will numb the gums with a gel and local anesthetic so you won’t feel a thing during your deep cleaning appointments.

Some patients may feel like their teeth become looser after a dental cleaning, especially with a deep cleaning. However, these treatments do not loosen from the cleaning itself but because the teeth were already loose. Deep cleanings remove debris and buildup between your teeth and gums, which may have been masking looseness caused by gum disease. With the plaque and tartar gone, this padding disappears and reveals the truth about your oral health.

During your exam appointment, our dentists will take comprehensive X-rays, scans, and images of your smile to get a total look at your teeth, jaws, and gums. Our dental hygienists will also gently scrape your teeth clean of built-up plaque and bacteria. We can also perform additional services after your appointment upon request, such as professional teeth whitening.

The Best Dentist In Spring
Sandra Archuleta

We have been looking for a family dentist for a long time, we have tried a bunch of places but nothing felt quite like home. Not too long ago we stumbled upon Nu Dentistry and met Dr. Ali. Not only was he professional, kind, and gentle, but he always finds a way to fit us in when we need an appointment. He’s also pretty funny! I appreciate that he takes the time to explain what he’s doing, before he does it. That really puts me at ease.

I usually have such huge anxiety when I go to a dentist appointment, which means I always put off visits until the last minute to disastrous consequences. However, Dr. Loggins helped me with sedation, so the entire process was a breeze!
